I can't really get a hold of myself ever since I told my parents about how I was taken advantage of when I was a child. My way of getting by all these years was I bottled everything up and let everyone walk all over me. I stopped talking until about two years ago. I started selling my body for drugs. I really don't enjoy this path, I feel worthless and embarrassed. I don't know who to talk to. Everyday at school I feel really bad about myself. I usually start to break down. I try to wear hats so I can cover my eyes. I just want to talk to someone who can help me with what I'm going through.

We all have times when we lack confidence and don’t feel good about ourselves.

But when low self-esteem becomes a long-term problem, it can have a harmful effect on our mental health and our lives. Thanks for your courage and honesty about your feelings; it is very important, especially if you want things to get better. The more you share your feelings and your thoughts, the more help and progress you will make.

You have faced many challenging situations already in your life. Abuse can be difficult to recover from on your own. It can bring down your self-esteem and cause you to make poor life choices. Please consider getting professional support. We feel this could really help you to find the healing that you are looking for. Our hotline has a large database and we would be happy to help you find this kind of support in your area. Our counselors can also help you find a drug treatment center if you feel that you need this next level of care.

For now, think of ways to improve your self-esteem. Self-esteem is the opinion we have of ourselves.
