If you are able to identify who is leaving you the messages, block that person. No one deserves to be bullied, and you may need to get an adult involved so that the cyber-bullying stops. Be sure to talk to your parents about the cyber-bullying.

Cyber-bullying can be reported to on-line service providers. If there is a threat of violence, then report the cyber-bullying to law enforcement. Finally, report it to the school if the cyberbullying involves other students.

Unfortunately you cannot change the other people's behavior, but you can change your reaction. In order to combat cyber-bullying, try pulling up all of the courage and self-confidence that you can. If someone says nasty things to you, just don't react. Also remember that what people say is not a true reflection of who you are as a person. Surround yourself with positive people and seek support from those individuals in your life who are positive. You might even write down a list of positive attributes about you, and read this list to yourself when you are being bullied.

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, please tell a trusted adult right away. Tell them what is happening and what kinds of feelings you are having as a result. If you are not sure who to talk to, call our hotline - 1-800-448-3000. Our counselors will be here to talk whenever you are ready to talk.

Nancy, counselor

15
