Recovering From An Eating Disorder

I'm in recovery from an eating disorder, anxiety and depression and I'm having an extremely difficult time and I'm feeling really hopeless. I keep wishing that my eating disorder would have just killed me already years ago.

Recovery from anything either physical or emotional can be a very difficult time. Your strength is diminished, both physical and emotional. You have been out of sync with your normal or past life style. It is very difficult to return to a normal pattern of day to day life. It is often so difficult that you need help on a daily basis. This support may be through a counselor, a support group or a number of sources.

Recovery takes time and hard work and both of those can be difficult to accept. Whom ever you have helping and supporting you, ask them to assist you in creating and strengthening your network. Don't give up. You have a lot of things to look forward to in your life.

Rebuild your strength and work forward. Keep your goals small, perhaps just daily until you are better able to deal with ones farther in the future. Get the help you need. Take really good care of yourself and claim the spot you are in now. Tell yourself "I am on the path to recovery, I already have overcome so much." You have worked so hard to get to this spot, give yourself credit for this.

As you claim these steps in your journey, speak positively to yourself. When those negative thoughts creep into you head, replace them with something positive. We have a great list to help you to get started with this: http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/v2/JournalPages/101-Positive-Things-to-Say-to-Myself2.pdf

We are here for you 24/7 so don't hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Pat, Counselor
