E-mailed you before but I feel like I didn't say all that I needed to. So, here
goes; I took a online depression test after looking up the symptoms and finding
out I had a lot of them last year and it said I had depression. My grades
started dropping in math, I didn't want to go to after school robotics and felt
like eating more. I couldn't sleep at night unless I read a book to calm myself
down. This all started because I was getting cyberbullied in 6th grade. I
stopped caring about my grades and all I wanted to do was listen to music and
draw. Now I feel stressed and pressured everyday and want to hurt myself or
commit suicide. I feel like I can't talk to anyone about this especially not my
parents. I feel like I can't share my feelings to my parents because I don't
want to get yelled at. I keep pushing my suicidal thoughts to the back of my
mind and try not to think about them but they keep popping up. I feel like I'm
not good enough and am an awful person. Nobody knows about this but It makes me
feel worse and worse of the pressure of it every day.

|

It takes a lot of courage to reach out and ask for help, so we appreciate you for that. It sure sounds like you have been dealing with a lot. Depression can be a difficult feeling to handle. Glad to hear you have been trying to find the answers of what you are feeling, that takes a lot of strength too, but it can also be draining.

Suicidal thoughts can be difficult to control. Often it's important to purposefully replace those thoughts when they come up. The thoughts that you use for replacement could be your reasons to live like important people who you want to continue to be there for or things that you want to do in the future. Or maybe your replacement thoughts are positive thoughts that you say to yourself to get through the moment, such as "So far, I have made it through 100% of my bad days. I can make it through this one too." Talk back to your suicidal thoughts and tell them that you aren't going to think about them right now and find something else to do like going for a run, listening to music that will build you up.

Glad you have found that reading helps, that is a great way to cope, you can also try to come up with a new hobby or bring back an old one. Depression is not a place a stay in your mind or a feeling that won't go away. It might creep up and stay a while but that's when you fight back and combat it with good things and thoughts. Know that it can get better.

Having suicidal thoughts can be overwhelming and we don't want you to go any further than those thoughts that you've had. Talk with a different trusted adult if don't feel like you can talk with your parents. This could be your school counselor, a teacher, coach, or one of our counselors. It is that important that you need to get another adult involved. Thoughts of ending your life are serious. Don't brush off those feelings, instead, talk about them, journal them, and cope through them.
