Last week, I cut myself. I need some advice asap. I have anxiety attacks a lot. I would like some advice.

Glad you reached out for support to help you through this challenging time. Sounds like you've been under a lot of pressure and stress with anxiety. Sometimes anxiety can pop up out of nowhere or there can be a trigger that sets it off. If not worked through, the feelings can become too big for you to handle on your own.

Self-harm is a difficult urge to ignore. It's not easy to face your emotions and admit that you need help, but you did this! This is a courageous step that you took today. We are proud of you! We want to encourage you to keep reaching out to our counselors or to a trusted adult in your life. Be open and honest, tell them the feelings and thoughts that you are experiencing. If you want, you could even print your email and our response to get the conversation started with an adult in your life. Sometimes it is easier to show someone a piece of paper than to say the words.

You've already shown your strength by reaching out. Now it's important to keep up with that positive energy inside. The tips and tools in our Self-Injury topic on YLYV can provide options to help yourself through this time.

Take time to focus on your self-care. Some questions to ask yourself: are you sleeping enough or too much? Am I keeping up with hygiene and nutrition? Am I putting hobbies and down time in my schedule? You may be doing all or possibly a few but it's important to keep up with these things. The tip 9 Steps to Taking Care of Yourself would be a great article to read and try to incorporate in your self-care routine.

Your Life Your Voice counselors are available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call us for free 1-800-448-3000. We look forward to hearing back from you. Keep staying strong and know you can get through this!

Sincerely,

Mary, Crisis Counselor

16
