I Feel Like My Friends Have Turned Their Back On MeRelationshipsI Feel Like My Friends Have Turned Their Back On Me

<span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"times new roman", serif;">Lately I feel like all of my friends have turned their back on me. None of them ask me to hangout anymore, not even my best friend. I have to just sit back and watch all them having fun together. I often feel alone and some of them are even spreading rumors about me that aren’t true. I don’t even know what I did wrong.

We are glad you have discovered our website and are reaching out today. We can appreciate the frustration, confusion, and hurt you expressed in your email about feeling abandoned by your friends. It does seem very odd that your relationship with them would change so drastically and quickly. Reaching out is the brave and wise thing to do, yet we know it is not always easy to do. You are doing great by talking about what is going on today.

Have you tried to talk with your best friend to see if they would provide any insight into what is going on? Could there be a misunderstanding of some sort? If that is the case, try to work through it. If they will not talk to you, or if what they tell you is totally not true, then we know this is not about you, it is about them. Unfortunately, some individuals seem to think they make themselves stronger by hurting others. This may be a clue they are not the people you thought they were, and it is ok to start looking for other friends. There is an old saying, “When God closes one window, he opens up another window elsewhere." Look for other individuals who enjoy some of the same things you do, and start spending some time with them. Work on focusing on the things you like and like to do.

We want you to know we are here for you. Expressing your feelings and talking can help offer some relief by sharing the burden. You can also discover options to your situation that you would not likely discover on your own. We also suggest reviewing the topics “Coping Skills" and “Friendship" in Tips & Tools Tab at the top of the homepage.

Stay Brave, Keep reaching out.

Sincerely,

Larry – Counselor

12
