How Do I Tell My Dad That I Want My Life To End?

<span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"times new roman", serif;">I’ve been feeling suicidal but I don’t know how to tell my dad. Sometimes I cut too deep and I’m scared to tell him that too. So how do I tell him I want my life to end???

We are so glad that you are reaching out for support and are looking for ways to talk to your dad. We have a couple of ways that you can tell your dad about your cutting, your suicidal thoughts and the feelings that go along with those thoughts. You could print off the email that you sent to us and give it to your dad. You could show your dad the cuts that you have made and tell him about your feelings when you made those cuts and the suicidal thoughts that you are having. If you feel like it will be difficult to talk to your dad, maybe you could write him a letter. We have a great tip that will help you to get started with this: Write a Letter To Your Parents

Try this tool to help you sort through some of the questions that your dad might have: Learning To Ride The Wave

When you talk to your dad, be open about how you are feeling. Tell him about the feelings or events that have led you to this point. This will help him to know how to best help you. Talk to him at a time when he has time to sit down and talk. If he seems busy tell him that you have something important to talk about and ask him when would be a good time to talk.

You are so brave for reaching out and we are proud of you for wanting to talk about this with your dad. It sounds like your feelings have become big and difficult to manage on your own. Please talk to your dad yet today and then let us know how it went. We want to be here to support you through this.

Sara, Counselor
