We're glad to see that you are reaching out to talk through what is going on in your life. It's certainly not the easiest thing to do, so we are very proud of you for having the courage to do this. Depression is a very heavy emotion and can affect many different aspects of your life. It's good to see that you're looking for support.

Tell us a little more about your feelings of depression. What has been going on that has you feeling this way – is there something specific that is triggering your emotions? How long have you been feeling like this? Look for the triggers and warning signs that happen before your feelings of depression start. For instance, it might be helpful to ask yourself what you were doing or who you were spending time with before you started feeling upset. It's also helpful to keep an eye on what your body is doing because depression can change our physical reactions, too. Are you getting enough sleep and eating healthy?

Use our Emotional Checklist to check on your habits.

Feelings of depression can feel very overwhelming. It's important to have a Safety Plan in place so they don't become too much for you.

Next, you'll want to figure out what usually helps you get through your depression and sadness. Is it a movie, a friend, a game? Identifying and developing positive coping skills helps you work through those emotions.

If you want to discuss this further, we are always ready to talk. Call 1-800-448-3000 or TEXT VOICE to 20121.

Keep talking about your emotions, talking helps!

April, Counselor
