I have thought about suicide many times and I just can't take anything anymore. I talked to my mum about getting a therapist, but she doesn't believe I need one because I hide my feelings so well.

It sounds like you are going through a lot right now. From the what you described you are feeling overwhelmed. When you say “I just can't take anything anymore", is there a specific thing that is causing you to feel stressed? Do you think that you could share those stressors with your mom so she can better understand how you are feeling?

It's really difficult when you feel that your parents don't understand what you are trying to say. One way to help your mom understand more about your feelings would be to write a letter to your mom and tell her about what is stressing you out. Another way to handle this could be talking to one of our counselors on the phone for either pointers of how to have a conversation with your mom or we could even talk to you and your mom at the same time if you feel like this would help.

The main thing is, we want to help you to find help so that you can feel better. We think that your idea of seeing a therapist could help. Other things that might help could be talking to your school counselor, a youth group leader, a teacher or to one of our counselors – 1-800-448-3000. We are open 24/7 so we will be here for you if you decide that you would like to talk.

Have you had a chance to look at our site? If you look at the tips and tools section we have 27 different topics and might have covered what is bothering you. One of the things that we would like you to consider is to make a safety plan.

Keep working on trying to communicate your feelings. Maybe even print this email and show it to your mom so she knows that you feel you need more help.

We will be here for you if you want to talk.

Sara, Counselor

17
