Do I Have Schizophrenia?

Yesterday while I was on my break from work I did a lot of research cause I have intrusive thoughts. They get the best of me sometimes. I kept reading about schizophrenia. Then when I was having dinner around 10 pm I heard voices in my head and I was panicked and worried. I haven't been getting the best of sleep. I also hear voices when I try going to sleep. I wake up with anxiety and I twist and turn. I don't want to have schizophrenia. I am so worried. I called the suicide hotline yesterday. I was wondering if you guys will email me back. Today I went to the clinic to get therapy, that's how worried I am. I don't want to lose touch from reality that's sounds scary but I know you guys can't diagnose me either. Please I need help.

It is understandable why this worry is raising your anxiety level. Seeking help from a mental health professional is exactly the right move for you to make and we hope you continue to meet with them to continue to receive support and guidance.

Did you talk with them about your lack of sleep and share what you have tried so far to relieve or remedy this? There are some very basic things you can do to improve your relaxation and sleep. If you have not tried them, we highly recommend that you do what you can yourself starting right now:

Guided Imagery

Just Breathe

Get Some Sleep

As you probably know, your emotional health and your physical health are so closely related that you may not be able to tell where one stops and the other begins. Your anxiety and other emotional symptoms could be attributed to the lack of sound sleep, or, it could be the other way around and that your lack of sleep could be a result of your weakened emotional health. Keep working with the people at the clinic so they can help you through this.

Stay in touch.

Pat, Counselor
