Welcome to YLYV email, thanks for reaching out today. You are incredibly brave and smart to recognize when you need extra support and being willing to ask for it. We can definitely be a resource to you and want to help in any way that we can. When you're comfortable please let us know a little bit more about what is going on with the bullying so we can give you support specific to your situation.

Dealing with bullies can be an overwhelming thing. If you are being bullied at school it can be helpful to talk with your school counselor or an adult that you trust so they can help make sure you are safe. Talking with them can also help you process what is going on and deal with the feelings that the bullying is causing.

When you are put in a situation where you are dealing with someone that is bullying you there are a few different ways you can handle the situation in addition to talking to an adult. You can be aware, walk away, avoid the situation, tell them to stop, and protect yourself. When walking through the hallway, walking with awareness, calmness, and confidence, can help you be aware of your surroundings. Bullies like to have control over your emotions, so walking away from the situation and ignoring them shows them that they don't have control over you. When it comes to avoiding them, try to stay away from the places where the bullying occurs or avoiding the bully themselves. Finally, in a calm, clear voice tell them to stop. Protect yourself if things get physical. Then as quickly as you can, get away from the situation.

Our website has a topics page that gives tips and tools on dealing with bullies that you may find helpful.

Have a great rest of your day and we hope to hear from you soon,

Samantha – Counselor
