I'm Scared To Start High SchoolCOVID-19I'm Scared To Start High School

Hi. So I'm going to High School pretty soon and I am scared about it because I will be a freshman and I feel like it will be scary. Is there any way you can help me? My high school I'm going to will be huge. What about COVID? I'm scared. Please help me.

This is a big year for you! The transition from junior high to high school can cause a lot of anxiety for most students. What do you feel is making you feel most anxious? Keep in mind that even though it's a new place, new teachers and new students, you are still you. You have the skills to be a good student and that is a big part of it.

If you have an opportunity to get up to the school before it starts to find your locker, the bathrooms, classrooms, the counselor office and any other place, please do it. Once you get familiar with the layout, it can take away a lot of the anxiety. Please know that about a week or two after school has officially started, your anxiety will most likely subside. You will be in the swing of things and be around other freshman who will feel the same.

Be ready for school. Get your clothes ready, have your schedule in a place that you can look at it regularly and make sure it is accessible to you when you need to glance at it. Have all your supplies ready to go so that you are prepared for each and every class. Find out what your school is doing due to COVID-19 regulations and then plan things out so you are ready to follow these guidelines. Being ready and on time will make a huge difference. There will be no panicking because you will be on top of it all. Try some of these back to school tips.

Remember that the other freshman are feeling the same way you are. Talk with your friends that are going to the school about this. Meet some new people, join a club or group that you have some interest in.

Know that we are here for you every step of the way. Please continue to reach out and let us know how it's going.

Take care,

Naina, counselor

14
