The Virus Is Just Messing Everything Up

Hi. So I have not left my house because of the Coronavirus. My mom has a chronic health condition and thinks that she is high risk and she is freaking out because my dad is still going to work. My brother has been driving me insane also. I literally just walk into the same room as him and he finds some reason to tease when I don’t even look at him. I can’t take him anymore. I don’t know what I’m going to do if I have to stay inside until August. I think I’m going to lose my mind. This virus is just messing everything up.

This is an incredibly tough spot to be in, especially when you are having conflicts with family members. Just remember, this virus and isolation won't last forever—life will get back to normal so soon! Sometimes, during situations like these, it is best to take it a day at a time. Keep up with your daily routine as much as possible (changing into new clothes, bathing regularly, eating well, etc). If you can, find constructive tasks to do that keep you busy and your brain engaged, such as a puzzle or reading a good book. Also, you can still go outside and be active, it is just important to practice social distancing as much as possible when doing so. Being with family, or anyone in general for long periods of time can be overwhelming, but it is possible to keep your cool and get through it.

Here are some tips on how to handle stress and deal with relationship conflicts, we hope these help.

Stay strong, take care,

Lauren, counselor
