I Feel So Lonely

I feel lonely. And I don’t know what to do.

We are glad you found our site and are writing in. It is a lonely time for everyone since school was canceled prematurely due to the virus. Meeting places such as movies, malls and restaurants are also closed. Isolation is a situation that produces feelings of loneliness.

So what can we do about it? Are you staying in touch with your friends virtually? Even if you can't see each other in person, it helps to talk. Are you spending time each day outside in the sunshine? Sunshine provides Vitamin D and that helps us feel good emotionally, so be sure to do that. Break up your day with different activities. Watch a movie, then do something physical. Read for a while and then do something again that will take some energy and burn calories.

Focus on what you can do to control in your life and your world. Re-organize your closet or one clothing drawer a day. Bake cookies or try a new recipe for dinner. Your mom would probably like your help with preparing meals. Keep yourself busy. Eat healthy foods, get plenty of exercise and sleep, and take care of your personal hygiene even though you aren't seeing your friends daily.

We can all get through this. Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Pat, Counselor
