I feel so emotionally hurt. I might not graduate high school on time, I'm fearful of losing people I care about because of that, and I don't know what to do.

We are glad you are reaching out for help. It sounds like you are really worrying about your situation with school. You are worried about how it may affect your relationships. First, you are not alone with other teens that are working to get all classes done for graduation. It happens and it also works out. Also, you don't know for sure yet what is going to happen and so it is better to not put a lot of stress on yourself and just do your best. If you have to wait to graduate that can work out and be fine, it is not as uncommon as you think. So, take a deep breathe, take it one day at a time and know that you will get through this and it will work out.

As far as relationships, it is also normal for friendships change after graduation regardless if you graduate on time or not. People go in different directions naturally and your good friends will be there no matter what happens. I know you want to graduate on time, but, if that doesn't happen you will one day and as time passes it will become no big deal. When you get your degree and make plans for your future it won't matter when you graduated.

You can think of this a life lesson and know that when you have bumps in the road it doesn't have to be devastating and things will be ok. Get support from your friends and family so you know you are cared about and you are going to be ok. It's good to talk about your stress and fears so that can be dealt with and let it go. Be good to yourself, take it one day at a time and believe in yourself, it will all work out.

Take care, you can call anytime and talk more to one of our counselors.

We hope to hear from you if you need additional support.

Anne, Counselor

17
