Overwhelmed By My Class

I have not been doing as well as I would like to in school. I have less than one month before classes are over. It's just my government class I am struggling in. I go back to school tomorrow and I have an essay due and two tests to take for this class. I don't know what to do. I tried to break down the rest of the assignments so I am not stuck writing a five page paper the night before it is due. I know I am terrible at time management so that is my fault. However, my teacher is not really helping us. He talks about things in class that have nothing to do with what we will be tested on. I know it is not just me who is struggling. My sister and my friends are also having a hard time with this class. I don't know what to do. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

You are not alone and you are asking very good questions. It shows that you are a involved student and want to do your best. It can take creative ways to see what works for you and just do your best. Also, maybe another teacher or school counselor can give you some ideas also that may help.

You mentioned this class being tough on a lot of other students. It may take giving more time in that class to push yourself for a short time to get done what you need. Just remember this class is almost over and putting that extra time and budgeting your time will be worth it to just get it over with.

Maybe set up a schedule with your day to break down the assignments or writing in smaller parts. Do 2 pages a day for 1 hour at 7:00pm for 3 days. If you put is down on your calendar or put on phone to remind you that you need to work on this assignment. It does help to break down in smaller pieces and to commit to that time. It is a commitment but, it will be over soon.

Having a study partner or a parent to study with you can also help to give you accountability and for someone to work with you to edit, give ideas, study the information etc. Always be open to ask for help or even more time if you feel you will need it. Remind yourself of your future plans. Pushing to get this class done will only bring you closer to your goals for your future.

It is important to get good rest, take breaks and eat good healthy food so you are physically and mentally strong and feel your best.

Take care,

Anne, Counselor
