Where Do I Start With Studying?

Hey, I'm overwhelmed with my classes and I don't know where to start. When I try to start studying I feel super unmotivated and I don't know what to do. I have 2 exams in like 4 days .

A bit of stress is actually healthy in your life. It can help you to keep your mind on the goal: Passing these exams. However, when it becomes overwhelming, that's when it causes problems. When experiencing a significant amount of stress, it's important to analyze if there is anything that can be done to reduce the stress. Some people take on too many unnecessary tasks at a time. If there are some things that you can eliminate, or do next week after your exams then take them off of your to do list. Keep your focus on your exams for right now.

Try making flash cards (either paper or online through an app) for the important terms that you need to know for each exam. Schedule your studying. Break up your studying into times of studying with friends, silently reviewing the information and reading your notes aloud. When you feel distracted, take a 15 minute break, get a snack, stretch or take a short walk but then get back to studying. Try some of these tips: http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/v2/Pages/studying-for-exams.aspx?Topic=School.

If you find yourself getting anxious as a result of this stress then you may want to try some exercises to calm yourself down such as listening to soothing music, imagining calming scenes such as an ocean, a waterfall, or birds flying. You can also slow your breathing down, or tense and then relax your body muscles. When you feel overwhelmed, talk about it with an adult, sometimes just a little encouragement can help you to get motivated again.

Stay safe.

LO, Counselor
