I Might Fail Calculus

I Might Fail Calculus

I think I might fail my calculus class. Last year I failed calculus 1 and had to retake it, and I ended up losing a full tuition scholarship and I'm still a little behind on my degree plan. If I have to retake calculus 2, I'll be even further behind, and I don't think my parents want to keep paying my tuition. My mom is already so stressed about her retirement and my dad's job, I don't think I'd be welcome at home if I fail, so if I do, I might just kill myself. I'm still trying in school, but I also have a bit of an eating disorder so I'm not really functioning at my highest and I don't know if I can keep doing this.

Suicide is never the answer to life’s problems, and certainly not the answer to a tough college class, no matter how difficult it is. Your calculus grade is just a small piece of your life, and it’s definitely not worth committing suicide over!

There is help available for you to get through this and overcome these thoughts of suicide, as well as your struggles with an eating disorder. Please consider seeking help from your doctor, a therapist, or your school counseling center. You mentioned that you don’t think you’d be welcome at home if you fail calculus, but have you asked your parents about this? Please think about discussing with them the fears and stress you’re dealing with. They love you and will want to help you. Whatever you do, remember your life has great value – much greater value than a calculus class – so don’t give up!

Please promise yourself that you won't follow through with harming yourself without first calling us at 1-800-448-3000 or telling someone nearby that you are on the verge of ending your life.
