I can't focus. I'm tired and I don't know what to do.

We are glad that you thought to write into the hotline, because sitting alone with negative thoughts sometimes escalates into bigger emotional problems. Being able to release these thoughts in a healthy way can bring a lot of relief to you. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now.

Sometimes when we get overwhelmed it is best we take a step back and first find something we can do to relax us and clear our mind. This could be going for a walk, meditating, listening to soothing music, or exercising. After you do that make a list of the things you need to get done such as practicing your instrument and your assignments. Then make a new list breaking each project down into smaller portions. So this could be listing each song you need to practice in band, this could be breaking down your homework assignments and studying into sections.

Doing this may seem silly but when we get overwhelmed with too much it is hard to focus on one thing leaving our brain scattered and it can be very difficult to recover from that. Clearing your mind, and starting fresh with smaller tasks can make everything feel more manageable. You will also feel a lot better when you get to cross things off the list and feel like you are making progress which can be motivating.

It is okay to feel this way, it happens to everyone throughout life for one reason or another.
