My Boyfriend Has Depression
<div class="ExternalClass3DF9FB0C21004666BB14485307F70CD2"><p style="font-family:georgia;font-size:16px;"><span>My boyfriend has depression and I don't know what to do for him. He isn't suicidal, although he has lost people to suicide. It hurts me to see him beating himself up. When he gets depressed there often isn't warning. We can be hanging out and having a conversation and I will accidentally say something that triggers him. I feel kind of silly asking on here, but I don't want to talk to my parents about it. I don't want them saying that I should break up with him because I can't handle it. I'm not breaking up with him. I just need someone to tell me how to help him when he gets depressed. </span></p> <span style="font-size:16px;"> </span></div>

You can listen to your boyfriend but at some point, he is going to have to take charge and he will have to be the one to get help. You can set up healthy boundaries with him as well, let him know that this is not something you are equipped with handling on a long term basis.</span></p> <span style="font-size:16px;"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;"><span> There are other supports out there he can reach out to anytime. He can contact us and talk to a crisis counselor over the phone, or via text or chat.</span></p> <span style="font-size:16px;"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;"><span>We will be here for him when he is ready to talk. We will help him sort through his feelings, find support in your area and assist him in understanding coping skills.</span></p> <span style="font-size:16px;"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;"><span>Sincerely,</span><br></p> <span style="font-size:16px;"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;"> </span><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;">LO, Counselor</span><br></p> <span style="font-size:16px;"> </span></div></div> </div>
