I Don't Need Friends

When I was a kid, I had friends. Now I'm saying I don't need friends. I don't talk to my old friends anymore. My Mom wants me to talk to/call some friends, but I don't want to. I want to be left alone. I'm not a social person.

We are glad you decided to reach out to Your Life Your Voice. You made a brave and wise choice to seek support when you are in need. It sounds like you are feeling frustrated with your mom.

Everyone is different in what they want and expect out of friendships. It is certainly acceptable to be introverted and to prefer time alone. However, it can be nice to still have friends, even if just a very small few, that you are able to reach out to. There are times in life where we all need support from time to time. Friends can be a great support to us. We all also need time to ourselves to reenergize and relax, some more than others, this is certainly personality based. If you have not already, it might be a good choice to talk to your mom about how you feel and even have a conversation about why she feels it is so important. It's good to understand each other's perspective and work together towards a resolution.

We want to be a support for you. Please reach out to us either by calling 1-800-448-3000, chat, text, or email us back. We are here to offer you support 24 hour a day, 7 days a week. Stay Strong!

Brittany, Counselor
