They Treated Me Horribly

After my friends stopped hanging out with me, I started to miss them even though they treated me horribly. When I was with them, I just wanted to die, they joked about my well-being, they joked about every little thing I did wrong. One day I punched one because I was fed up with their nonsense. I had no idea she was being abused at home, I apologized as much as I could and gave her a cd with her favorite band on it and all of the songs they had ever played. Then a few days later she texted me the rudest thing "lol we aren't friends anymore" I cried for a long time, I couldn't believe the person I thought I was friends with could hurt me that much. She told my other friend (her girlfriend) that I'm transphobic and that I'm evil. I feel horrible whenever I hear their voices and such. I'm scared to talk to them to apologize for everything because they may just yell at me.

These people don’t sound like good friends. Even though on one level they appeared to be friends, treating you poorly is not what friends do with each other. It may be wise to block this person’s ability to contact you on your phone or on social media. Try to be friendly to everyone you meet and you will develop more friendships. Not everyone will treat you by making rude comments or making unfunny jokes about you. Friends usually have some sort of common interest such as a sport or living in the same neighborhood. If you can get involved in some activities at school, you will meet lots of other people and find friends that are going to build you up as a person and notice when you do nice things. Look around for opportunities to get to know other people in your life and expand your friendship circle.

Stay safe!

Karen, counselor
