But the way I feel about him is the way he feels about one of my best friends... what do I say or do? I definitely don't want this to pass because it could be the start of something.

We all go through situations where sometimes we need someone to talk to. It sounds like you have been feeling conflicted and unsure how to approach your feelings for this guy. Relationships can be tough sometimes and it can be hard to know what to say. It sounds like, based on what you have shared, that this guy has feelings for your friend. Does your friend feel this way towards him as well? Have you talked to this guy about how you feel about him?

This can be a tricky situation as it may end with someone’s feelings being hurt, but you can take steps to hopefully avoid that from happening. If you have not, even though it can be scary, maybe you should talk to this guy and let him know how you feel and that you think he is great. Instead of trying to guess, he can just tell you exactly how he feels. It might be possible, he will not reciprocate those same feelings which can be painful but it can allow you the chance to put your energy elsewhere. It allows for the opportunity to find another person that does have the same feelings. It is also possible that he may reciprocate your same feelings! Only he knows how he feels.

There is also the potential that your best friend and him share the same feelings for each other. It could be good to talk with her first and see how she is feeling as well. While this can be hurtful when someone we care for likes someone else close to us, it is okay to allow them the opportunity to explore their relationship if that mutual connection exists. If this is the case you can certainly give yourself space and time to heal. This can be a good time to also think how you would feel if the situation was reversed. There are many factors to consider in order to be respectful of others feelings as well as your own.

We will be here to support you, let us know if you would like to talk.

Brittany, Counselor
