Feeling Pretty BadFeelingsFeeling Pretty Bad
Hi, I'm just feeling pretty bad right now and don't feel like I have anyone to talk to. I wanted to chat but it wasn't available and I don't want to call since it's late and my parents could hear. I don't know how long these can be or if anyone wants to hear about my stupid problems anyway but I just feel really sad right now. I have anti depressants but I haven't been taking them because I feel off whether I'm on or off them. I had one passion left which is my youth group and we have board training tomorrow (I'm president) and I feel no desire to go to it. It's the last thing I have going for me and I'm not enjoying it anymore. I'd never take my own life but I have really strong thoughts of hopelessness and no therapist because we can't afford one. Sometimes I wish I could just walk to a mental hospital/inpatient and say I want help but I also would want to be able to be in my own bed at night if that makes sense. I don't want the commitment but I just want help. I was feeling a little bit better about a half hour ago and then one thing happens that isn't even big and now I feel terrible again. I wonder if I'll ever be normal and not beat myself up after one inconvenience. A0nyway if you read this email I'm sorry its so long/negative. I just feel really bad. Thank you for taking the time to read.

Thanks for writing in, sorry that you missed the chance to chat. Hopefully, it will work for you later this week.

You are making a smart move in trying to talk about what is going on. It sounds like you have been struggling with your mental health for a while now. We understand how frustrating it can feel when your medicine is not helping the way that it is supposed to. Have you talked to your doctor about this? Told him or her in detail what is going on and the feelings that you are having? Treating someone for a mental health condition can be tricky and it can involve a series of trying new approaches. You will get the best treatment and results if you are open and honest with your doctor. Try keeping a journal/log of how you are feeling. This will help your doctor to see if there are any patterns that need to be addressed.

You mentioned that your passion is youth group, that is awesome. Have you ever talked to your youth leaders about the struggles that you are currently facing? They might be a really good source of support for you. Hopefully they would be someone who you could talk with, lean on and pray with while you are learning the best ways to manage and work through your depression.

Try reading through some of the tips and tools on these pages:

http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/v2/Pages/depression.aspx

http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/v2/Pages/self-esteem.aspx

If you could find a way to talk when things come up, that might help you process it so that it does not become overwhelming for you.
