I love food, I eat a lot and I work out a good amount but I still find myself feeling horribly guilty for even eating a little extra cereal. I have made myself vomit whenever I have binged on food but it's rare. I'm not dumb and I know everything has calories but it just feels like I can't eat anything. I don't think its possible for me to starve because I love food but I'm scared. I feel like food has become my enemy and its really depressing.

Thank you for reaching out for support , we are glad you found us. First of all, associating feelings with food can be a dangerous road to take. It can make you feel guilty and ashamed. It can put you in a cycle that is hard to break and this what you might be experiencing now.

Food is for fuel. If you are struggling in deciding if you are eating out of hunger or boredom or perhaps as a way of dealing with something else going on, start a journal and write down the foods you eat for the day. Try to focus on what you are doing before wanting to eat, identifying what feelings you might have had and how you felt afterwards. This might help you see a pattern of your eating habits and understand more if this in fact an eating disorder.

If you need to, for a time, plan out your meals and the foods that you will allow yourself for that day. Ask your doctor for advice on what a healthy amount would be for your age and body shape. Follow these guidelines. When you talk to your doctor try to be honest about the struggles that you have been having. The more transparent you are, the more your doctor can help you.

Let us know if you would like to talk,

LO, Counselor

18
