starving myself. I hate my body, and I'm bullied for it. I'm scared to talk to
my family about it cause I believe if I show my mother my cuts she will hate

for reaching out through Your Life Your Voice today. It sounds as though you
are going through a difficult time. Having issues with self-harming can be
overwhelming. Cutting is often a sign of deeper issues. Many people turn to cutting and not eating to find some sense of control in their lives. They feel that if they can just control these things in their life they will feel better because although they are not able to control other areas in their life, at least they are able to control the things that they do to themselves. Even though starts as a way to help them to deal with what is going on, it actually starts to cause problems of it's own. The cutting and starving take over and become overwhelming and in many cases addictive. This is the point were you are now. This is why it is so important to get help. We
are concerned for you.

It can be scary
to talk to a parent; however, we encourage you to communicate your feelings
with your parents so that they can help you cope with your current feelings. You are right, your mom's initial reaction might be scared-mad. It is normal for a parent to feel scared about what their child is doing to themselves and to react in a way that comes across as anger. You are wise in thinking this through before talking to your mom. We have some ideas of how to neutralize the situation so you can have a good talk about what you are struggling with:

you feel as though you cannot keep yourself safe from self-harming, we
encourage you to call our Hotline, and talk with one of our counselors. We are
here to help you and want to talk with you about this. It’s important that you
utilize healthy coping skills to cope with this emotional stress. Self-harm is
a negative coping skill. It may have temporarily caused a sense of relief, but
it will not fix or help the underlying issue that has caused you to want to
self-harm. As you have seen, it also can create more problems.

Try some healthy coping skills
to replace the negative once. This could be doing activities you enjoy, writing
in a journal, listening to music, or calling to talk with someone at our hotline.
We have provided a link to more coping skills ideas and encourage you to check
them out. It can take time to find the right coping skill for you and it will not
happen right away. The important thing is that you are trying new things.
