Not Good EnoughFamilyNot Good Enough
I'm 14. Lately I've been feeling down. My parents are my main source of stress because nothing I do is ever good enough for them. Like with school for example. I'm in high school. I take my education serious and I have a 3.93 GPA. But my parents always say I'm not trying my hardest and I'm taking all accelerated classes. But it's not just school it's everything. My weight, my crush, softball, etc. Anything I do isn't good enough for them. And I feel as if I'm the burden on the family. I've always had thoughts of suicide, planned them, just never acted on them but I feel that I will in a couple weeks. My father is graduating with his master's tomorrow so these past weeks I've been binging and purging. Working out trying to lose weight. We went shopping yesterday and I found a romper that I liked. And my mom said it looked fat on me. I'm just fed up with not being good enough for anyone.

We are glad that you are reaching out and sharing your feelings. Have you talked with anyone else about having suicidal thoughts and plans? This is such a serious issue that we encourage you to talk to some adult that you can trust that is near you. Perhaps a grandmother, an aunt , your school counselor, someone who can advocate for you and help you get some help with this.

It sounds like you are a very talented young lady with tremendous abilities. We would hate to see you do anything to harm yourself or end your life. Life is full of stressors and they will only become more difficult in your future unless you get some help at this point in time.

Thinking about ending your life as an option to deal with your current stressors, is not safe. There are many other options that should be explored and you should get some help in order to do that effectively.

So, promise yourself that you will stay safe and talk to an adult that you can trust. If you cannot make or keep that promise, call 911 and let them know you need help, or go to your closest Hospital ER and tell them you cannot keep yourself safe. They will know what to do to keep you safe.

Try to think about the positive things in your life. The things that you like about yourself. Try to find a way to see each situation in a positive light. Your positivity will become infectious. Hopefully as you see each situation as "glass half full" your family will start to notice and will be able to find ways to be positive themselves. We can not make others into positive people but we can be a change agent making positivity so attractive that they can't help themselves but to think of things in a new light. If you need help with the positivity in your life, call us and let us know that you would like us to help you brainstorm some ideas. We can be the cheering section that you need right now in your life. You are not alone and things can get better. Keep reaching out.

Sincerely,

Pat, Counselor

14
