I haven't had an appointment with my GP and so I'm not 100% sure if I do have social anxiety but I'm pretty sure I do. I have been shy and not willing to take part in social activities due to fear of criticism or failure and have a very low self esteem/confidence. My mum and I usually joke around a bit so I think that she'll probably just think I'm lying or making up some excuse as I've never said anything about it before. I was just wondering if you think I should try and help myself or if I should tell them and get some help. Thank you if you do reply.  </span></font></span></p></div> <span style="color:rgb(63, 63, 63);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(63, 63, 63);"> </span></div><div class="ExternalClass30A97A5A52F64894B85942246AAB2577"><div><div class="ExternalClassAD97DF4AF5894C7CBDAAB66E53FA8264"><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"><span>We are glad you are reaching out today.  Reaching out is the brave and wise thing to do when we feel we are struggling with something, and we all need some help from time to time.  You question  is an excellent one and conveys good insight on your part being aware of your concern with social anxiety, and how to work  towards feeling more confidence.  It sounds like you have a good relationship with your mother, so try letting her know how you are feeling in social situations, and perhaps ask her for some suggestions.  By doing this you are sharing your struggle, which will likely make it lighter for you, and giving her an opportunity to share her insights with you.  We also suggest reviewing the articles in the Tips section on anxiety, and social anxiety together.  We listed them below:</span></p> <span style="color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"><a href="/Pages/tip-Anxiety.aspx">http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/v2/Pages/tip-Anxiety.aspx</a> </p> <span style="color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"><a href="/Pages/11-Ways-To-Combat-Anxiety.aspx">http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/v2/Pages/11-Ways-To-Combat-Anxiety.aspx</a></p> <span style="color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"><a href="/Pages/tip-6-steps-to-curm-social-anxiety.aspx">http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/v2/Pages/tip-6-steps-to-curm-social-anxiety.aspx</a>  </p> <span style="color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"><span>Perhaps you are your mother can work together and make this sort of a “mother/daughter” project, have some fun with it.   Remember, we are all working towards improvement, not perfection.  Small steps towards improvement can make big differences. </span></p> <span style="color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"><span>We hope you stay in touch and let us know how it is going.</span><br></p> <span style="color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"><span>Sincerely,</span><br></p> <span style="color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:tahoma;font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"><span>Larry – Counselor</span></p> <span style="color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(89, 89, 89);"> </span> <span style="color:rgb(63, 63, 63);"> </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(63, 63, 63);"> </span></div></div> </div>13
