Have you ever gone through a family photo album and been appalled at some of your parents' fashion choices from when they were your age? Now flip ahead 20 years in the future and imagine someone looking at pictures of how you dress today. What will they think? What seems really in style right now might actually be kind of embarrassing to look at in the future.
How about trends other than clothing, hairstyles, and fashion in general? We pick up on trends from the people around us, what we see in ads, videos, and social media. Some challenges posted on Social Media become trends because of the shock value they offer. But are those trends worth following? Is it something that you could look back at years from now and regret?
Have you ever wondered who starts those trends or challenges that are harmful or destructive? “Following the leader" is not always a good choice, especially when that leader is taking you down the wrong path. A trend is something that is popular at a certain point in time but may not be something that you are proud of in the future.
In a world that places a lot of value on “likes" and “shares," it is important to stop and think about the motivation behind some trends. Don't value popularity or attention over your safety or the well-being of others.
Unlike bad fashion choices, some trends or challenges that you follow can have a huge impact on your future whether you realize it now or not. Live your life in a way that prevents future embarrassment, bad outcomes, or negative consequences. Avoid situations that may make you feel great in the moment but cause much regret in the future. Be a trend-setter for good!
Great things are not accomplished by those who yield to trends and fads and popular opinion.
