Finding Your Motivation

motivation

Finding the motivation you need to do your everyday activities, can be tough. It's a challenge to force yourself to study for your next test. It's exhausting to do the conditioning that is required for your sport of choice. It's boring to go to work every day to do the same thing over and over again. Although these things may seem taxing, the rewards could be great. You could get a great grade on that next test, you may be the leading scorer in your next game or you might earn the money you need to buy your first car.

So, what can you do to motivate yourself to keep going? How do you stop pushing the snooze button of your life?

  1. Be Realistic. You probably won't feel like doing it. That's ok. Not everything is fun and exciting.
  2. Tell yourself the truth. You might try to tell yourself that it doesn't matter if you don't go to practice or if you call in sick to work, but it does matter. It matters to your bosses and coaches. It matters to your teammates and coworkers. It matters to your future.
  3. Push yourself to get it done. Instead of putting off the tasks you need to do, do them now. Then you will have a feeling of accomplishment and might even have free time to schedule as you wish.
  4. Just do it. Adulting means that sometimes you have to do the stuff that you don't feel like doing.
  5. Give yourself a pep talk. Some things are hard, but you can do hard things.
  6. Imagine the rewards of staying focused. Dream big. Keep working towards your goals.

It's simple, (but not easy): Force yourself out of your head, past your feelings and outside of your comfort zone. If you have the courage to start, you have the courage to succeed.
