Know Your Values

What do you believe in?  What do you feel is important in your life?  How do you discover what is worth taking a risk for?  What is your personal life mission?

We know these are weighty questions.  You might not have all the answers right now.  So how will you decide on what principles you will use to live your life?

  1. Discover a faith to guide you.  This may look different for each person, but knowing what you believe will give you a foundation to base your life on.  Don't rely on your parents to do this for you, make it your own.  Research, ask questions, and do some soul searching so you know what you believe, and why.
  2. Determine what standards are important to you.  Focus on who you want to be and what you want to be known for.  Stand up for what you truly believe, not what you think you should believe.  Be yourself.
  3. Set goals for your life.  This could influence your career path, who you socialize with, and where you live.  Good life goals will capitalize on your strengths

Take this step by step.  It will give you a direction for your life, inspiring and encouraging you.

Here are some examples:

  1. BEING ENVIROMENTALLY FRIENDLY:  If this is a standard for your life, you may look for ways to take care of your environment.  This could include recycling, planting trees or buying products that don't contain harmful chemicals.
  2. BEING KIND:  If you choose this as a standard for your life, you might make it a goal to speak to others (and yourself) in a kind manner.  You might also decide that you will take a stand against others who are being not so nice to others.
