It really sounds like you have taken on a lot of responsibility to help your family during this difficult time; we know how upsetting this must be, but you really are showing a lot of responsibility, maturity, and care for your family by doing what you’ve done. In the future, have you ever thought about pursuing a GED? By setting this goal you can have something to work forward to.
A lot of individuals have obtained their GED and become successful, upstanding individuals. While your goals may be put off by a year or two, you can still accomplish everything you want in life.
We are so happy you’ve been able to stop cutting for the past two months. This situation is definitely stressful, so it is understandable you are trying to think of ways cope. The urges to cut seem to be returning, but it’s great you’ve been fighting the urges. Honestly, it helps to have other coping strategies to turn to when the desire to cut returns.
You are right; having more friends or exercising won’t solve your problems, but they can help cope when you start to feel down. Listening to music, drawing/writing, watching a funny video, doing breathing exercises, or spending some time outside are also great coping strategies as well. Aside from friends, family, and ourselves, have you ever thought about opening up to anybody else about how you are feeling? A lot of communities have free and affordable counseling services which you could utilize during this difficult time. Having a professional talk with you about coping strategies and ways to help yourself feel better, you could gain that in-person support you could benefit from.
We have access to a database with information about resources all across the country (counseling, financial assistance, and much more); if you felt comfortable giving us your city, state, and county we could provide you with information about resources. We truthfully won’t do anything with your information besides help get the resources and assistance you need.
