It takes a lot of courage to open up and talk about your feelings like you did! Thanks for reaching out and making contact with us. It sounds like you are feeling pretty miserable at home especially when you get yelled at. No one likes to get yelled at. You talked about not having any choices at home. Gaining a sense of independence is important as you go through your teen years. That's great that you have decided against running away!

Talking to a therapist is a great idea! Be honest with your mom about how important you feel it is for you to get counseling. The more support you can get the better! Try coming up with a list of things you can do when you are feeling down. Many teens try journaling, exercising, listening to music, etc. Find something you enjoy doing and do it on a regular basis. You deserve to be happy!

Remember that our counselors are here for you anytime you need us. The Boys Town National Hotline has trained counselors available 24/7 to help with any type of issue. You can either call or email us back if you need further help. Take care!

Sincerely,

Melanie, Crisis Counselor
