How Do I Stop My Thoughts?
I feel very depressed, and I feel like committing suicide. I am bullied at school a lot. I've told my parents that, but I don't think they even care. I've told them that I have suicidal thoughts, and that I need to see a therapist.

They never took me to one. I also told them that I write suicidal poems, but they don't act concerned about it. How do I stop my suicidal thoughts?

Hello!

It was great to talk to you on the phone about everything.  That keeps us from worrying too much.  Like we said, even though it may feel like your parents aren't helping enough, it sounds like they're really doing their best.  Keep them in the loop about how you're feeling.

As promised, here's the link to the "Music Therapy" worksheet:

http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/DiscoverIt/Pages/JournalPages.aspx

There are kids out there who can fill out two or three of these things. There are also a lot of kids who have playlists set up on their computers or iPods (or whatever they use) just for their moods.

So, when they're feeling sad, they have a "sad" playlist. If the music you listen to doesn't make you feel worse and isn't utter garbage, then music is a great way to go!

Remember to follow up with your counselor, too, about that bully issue. Ask her what you should do to combat the bullying. It may not work 100%, but it's better than doing nothing. Also, think about some specifics you'd like to tell your counselor.  Explain what's wrong, explain what you want, and ask how to get it.

Also, keep in mind that you're in a rut.  Like we said, being thirteen can be miserable. It gets better. If you ever feel like hurting yourself, you call Josh or us, okay? 1-800-448-3000. We're here 24/7.

Take care, and email/call back whenever you'd like!

Kate, Counselor
