I Do Not Feel Like I Am Important
Although I know I am important to many of those around me, sometimes I feel so much less than that.  I feel like that if I were the dirt beneath their feet, they wouldn't even care.  It seems like sometimes the answer IS that they don't care. It's as if I convince myself of it.  It turmoils within me alot, even though I know that's a lie.  Why do I allow myself to think that?  Is it bad to think that?  I'm not alone in that feeling am I?

No, you are NOT alone with the feelings that you are having.  We all hit a point where we feel down, and not quite good enough. Just because you are feeling this way, it does not mean it is true. You yourself said, this is a lie. You are not beneath anyone, and you are most certainly not to be compared to the dirt beneath their feet. Stop thinking this way, because it is just consuming you. Think to yourself, what is going on that is making you feel this way. Is there someone in your life that is putting you down, or making you feel this way? If there is, then you need to address this issue with the person directly, so that you can get the reassurance that you need to hear that you are not the way you are thinking of yourself.

These thoughts are not healthy, because it is dragging you down and can cause you to feel depressed. There is no reason to let things get worse than how they are now. It is important that you talk with someone about how you are feeling. Right now you need a little extra love, support, validation, and guidance. It is okay to need these things. Talk with your friends and family about how you are feeling. They are going to be able to remind you of just how wonderful you are, and how important you truly are to them. If you feel like you need an extra push than just from family, you can always look into getting into some individual therapy. This is someone who can hear you out, and help you get things back on track so that you are feeling more positive about yourself. If you would like to email us back your city/state, we would be more than willing to locate some agencies that can work with you on getting in to see a therapist. If you want to go that route, we are here to help you find the right place.

For now, try to start your day on a positive spin. Put up a few sticky notes in your room that say something positive about yourself. Put them on a few places that you go to everyday. This way, when you look at them you will get that constant reminder of how valuable you are, so that the negative thoughts are not consuming you. As always, we have counselors available to talk with your 24/7. If you ever need to reach out, we are here for you!

Best,
Mandi, Counselor
