Cutting to Deal With Bullying
I started to cut my arms last year now i try to hide it from everyone including myself its all over my body and its because of the kids at school they say alot of things about me, like im fat, not pretty and that i am f***ing ugly that i have an imaginary boyfriend and that i wasnt capable of getting a real one because of that its made me forget about grades and stuff and focus more on looking pretty and being skinny (i have turned anorexic and bulimic) also they say i am a loner and a poser which how could i be a poser when i started the entire style at my school

I cry myself to sleep at night and find it really hard to confront or ingnore the comments that the people at school are saying and i dont know what to do anymore i want to switch schools but my parents say "rough it out! You can do it i know your a strong girl" and they just don't take time to know the real me and stuff sometimes i feel like no one understands me and stuff and i really do want to change schools and start over cuz im just plain tired of everything and how ppl treat me its not like i can be like "hey every single one of the 300 kids that pick on me you have to change schools!" its just easier if i leave instead nobody wants me at that school anyways what should i do?  ahhhhh help!

We're sorry to hear that you are struggling so much right now, and have cut yourself to cope with the pain and sad feelings.  Do your parents know about your cutting?  Have you ever talked with a counselor about it?  There are many other ways you can learn to cope with your feelings beside cutting yourself, and a professional counselor or a school counselor will be able to help you.  Cutting can be very dangerous, especially over a long period of time.

We understand that you want to go to another school to avoid the put downs and mean kids.  Have you ever talked to your school counselor or school social worker about the bullying?  Most likely they will do their best to put an end to this.  One girl who was in a similar situation as you, met with the kids involved along with the school counselor  and basically they had to work it out, or their parents would be contacted.  The thing is, school should not be a place you fear.  Now, if nothing works and the school is not helping, then you know you have tried.  Your parent most likely wants you to stick it out because it is late in the year and you will be graduating from middle school soon.  Next year is high school and you will be able to make new friends.

Have you had a chance to read some of the material on our website?
A lot of teens have found journaling their thoughts or doing something creative or physical, as a positive alternatives to cutting.

It may seem like your parents don't understand you, please think about giving them another chance and let them know that you are hurting and that you cut yourself.  You can ask them to help you find a professional counselor or a support group for teenagers.  We can also help you if you give us a call, we are here 24/7 to listen.  You are very courageous to reach out, and I hope you continue to keep in touch!
